Michael has worked as a SAMS missionary in the Dominican Republic since 2000. Previously he was an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Deputy Director for Clinical Care at the Infectious Disease Center of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Missionary duties have included medical consultation in general medicine and HIV/AIDS; designing, running and evaluating community health promotion programs; and administrative responsibilities as Medical Director of Clínica Esperanza y Caridad.
He has published articles on Christian health missions and presented at various national and international meetings on topics including short-term medical teams, community health and health promotion, cross-cultural issues in health ministry, and financial issues for church clinics in low and middle income countries.
