The following is a list of some of the best Church history books we know of. If you have other suggestions send them to: [email protected]
- A History of Christian Mission: second edition-Stephen Neill – Professor Neill’s excellent and authoritative survey examines centuries of missionary activity, beginning with Christ and working through the Crusades and the colonization of Asia and Africa up to the present day.
- From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya: A Biographical History of Christian Missions Ruth A. Tucker – ‘This book, now better than ever, has no competition. No one has ever so ably, efficiently, and delightfully linked together the key personalities that portray so dynamically the story of the expansion of our faith from a handful of people in Jerusalem to the very ends of the earth. It is a must-read for all serious believers.’ — Ralph D. Winter
- The Story of Christianity, Vol’s 1 and 2 by Justo L Gonzalez. As good as it gets. Our church used this to teach a lengthy class on the history of the Church and it was an excellent resource.
- A History of Christianity, Vol’s 1 and 2 by Kenneth S Latourette. Another classic but now not up to date. Second volume ends with 1975.
